Flight over the Everest region leads us to Bhadrapur which is where we take local transport to take us to Birtamod for the night.
The terraced rice fields and tea plantations provide an idyllic backdrop as we travel to the west, passing Gumpas along with prayer wheel during the long jeep trip to Taplejung.
Our hike begins today by hiking through dense landscapes and lush forest surrounded by distant views over the Himalayas and passing through the village on the river of Siwan as well as the bridge that takes us across the river to Chirawa Chirawa, our destination for the day.
The permits are checked through the office of the local park, we enter the conservation zone that protects the Kanchenjunga region. We then continue by crossing a bridge, and then through the beautiful subtropical landscape until we arrive at Lelep.
A string of stunning suspension bridges takes us back and forth across Ghunsa Khola to Jaubari, and then over another bridge and onto the narrow path that climbs the slopes with steep sides towards Amjilosa and its pasturelands for yaks.
Up and upwards through the thickly forested zone of dense rhododendrons and the venerable oak trees, passing numerous waterfalls, and scattered villages that lie beneath the mountains within their serene valley. The first part of the day is spent walking slowly towards Phole, the Tibetan settlement of Phole Then we begin the gradual climb up to the charming town of Ghunsa with its stunning views of the countryside surrounding it.
Today is a scheduled rest day to allow the body adjust to high altitude and Ghunsa is perfect for the job due to its beautiful alpine landscape as well as cultural landmarks such as the gompa in the area.

If there's snow, and we're very lucky, we may even see the tiny footprints left by the area's most elusive animal, the mysterious snow leopard.
The first task will be the gradual climb up to Pangpema, a remote and lofty outpost of Pangpema which is where we stop for lunch before embarking for the final ascent towards the ultimate destination which is Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The vibrant colors of the prayer flags lead us to the base camp on the other side of the mountain's towering peaks, with stunning views of the surrounding area's mountains, which are snow-capped, adding the cherry to the cake of the trek. After spending time at the summit to enjoy the views and revel in the accomplishment, we make our way back to Lhonak.
In the return trip, following the same route back to Ghunsa and we get an entirely new and fresh view of the beautiful landscape of the region.
A rugged trail leads us through forests to the trailhead with stunning mountain views, with the mysterious Makalu standing in a solitary position at the far end of the horizon.
The trail leads us through a thrilling rollercoaster hike today. It's an undulating route that passes over two passes: firstly Sinion La (4646m) then Mirgin La (4470m). Everest and Makalu make up the stunning scene we see while we walk through the area until we eventually come down to our in Cheram.
The trail takes us through forest until we cross the forest line, and then we enter the field of moraine that is Yarlung Glacier, with Jannu, Kanchenjunga and other peaks in the region soaring over our heads through the valley.
We are descending significantly today leaving the alpine areas behind and falling into the lush environs of lower foothills, with their thick pine and rhododendron forests. The swift waters of Simbuwa Khola Simbuwa Khola become our steady guide as we go downwards until we reach Tortong.
Another day of hiking along an uneven trail, our route traverses the slopes lined with trees and pastures swaying on the steep slopes. The journey to Yamphuding will bring us back towards the major road which runs across the region.
After the excitement and adventure of the alpine peaks, the picturesque fields, quiet villages, and vibrant hues of lower mountain ranges provide an enjoyable walk as we gradually wind our hike down to the valley floor.
The final day of our trek during which we walk throughout Limbu communities and through a constant patchwork of pastures and farmland and the smiles of the always curious locals who greet us as we pass along. The arrival of our vehicle in Kamdine is a time to reminisce and take a breather from the amazing trek in one of Nepal's remote regions.
An extended day will see us take a bumpy ride along the main road and then we turn to Birtamod.
A short drive brings us to Bhadrapur and we then take our flight back to Kathmandu with plenty of time to unwind. Perhaps enjoy the trek by having a meal with our friends.
